Compare Punta Cana resort prices for your dates

This W Punta Cana review looks at the resort that turned one of hospitality’s most nightlife-driven brands into an adults-only all-inclusive. W Punta Cana, Adult All-Inclusive opened in 2025 on the Uvero Alto coast, north of the main Punta Cana resort strip, and by late 2026 it has had more than a year to settle in. Below we break down what is confirmed about its rooms, restaurants, pools and prices, how far it really is from the airport, and who will love it, or be happier at one of its Uvero Alto neighbors.

Is W Punta Cana open? Opening date and background

Yes. Marriott International signed the project with Dominican developer Grupo Puntacana and MAC Hotels in October 2022 as a beachfront new build in Uvero Alto. The resort was first slated for spring 2025, soft-opened in June 2025, and W Hotels announced its grand opening on August 19, 2025. A formal inauguration followed in October 2025, attended by Dominican President Luis Abinader. Caribbean Journal put the total investment at about $160 million.

It is the first W anywhere to combine the all-inclusive model with an adults-only policy, and it is the template for more: W has announced two further all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, at Corasol Playa del Carmen (planned for 2028) and Costa Mujeres (2029). Spain-based studio Zanobia Arquitectura led the design, mixing W’s bold, playful style with Dominican references such as larimar stone, tobacco-plantation heritage, colonial architecture, dragonflies and seashells.

Where is W Punta Cana? Uvero Alto location and airport transfer

W Punta Cana sits on the Carretera Uvero Alto, on the quieter northern coast of the greater Punta Cana resort area, with about 400 meters of beachfront. Uvero Alto is the most remote of the main resort zones: tour operators place the resort about 29 miles (42 km) from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), and the drive times they list range from roughly 50 to 70 minutes depending on traffic and route. Budget about an hour each way and pre-book your ride; our Punta Cana airport transfer guide compares private transfers, shuttles and taxis.

The upside of the distance is space. The beach faces the open Atlantic, so expect breeze and real waves rather than a calm lagoon; published reviews note that guests swim more in the pools than in the sea. Like the rest of the east coast, Uvero Alto can receive sargassum seaweed in the warmer months, and our sargassum seaweed guide explains the seasonal patterns. For the bigger picture of this coast, read our Uvero Alto guide.

Is W Punta Cana adults-only and all-inclusive?

Yes on both counts. The minimum age is 18, and tour operators such as Air Canada Vacations note that proof of age is required at check-in. The all-inclusive plan, as listed by Costco Travel, covers unlimited meals and snacks, unlimited domestic and select international drinks, room service, evening entertainment, fitness classes, and taxes and gratuities. The in-room minibar is part of the package too.

Expect to pay extra for spa and salon treatments, excursions such as snorkeling trips and yacht charters, laundry, and some motorized water sports; the rotating food trucks and pop-ups may also carry a charge. Unlike many Punta Cana resorts, W does not sell a separate paid club level. The resort has told the press it has no clubs and no resort fees, and its extra service comes attached to the bigger suites instead.

Marriott Bonvoy members

W is a Marriott Bonvoy brand. If you want to earn or redeem Bonvoy points, compare the price on Marriott’s own website before booking elsewhere: stays booked through third-party sites generally don’t earn points or count toward elite status.

W Punta Cana rooms and suites: which category should you book?

All 340 rooms and suites start at about 700 square feet, which is generous by Punta Cana standards. Every category has a balcony or terrace, a king bed (or two kings), a bathtub plus a separate shower, and big windows. The resort is spread across buildings of four floors, so the scale feels far more intimate than the 1,000-plus-room mega-resorts of Bávaro.

Premier rooms: tropical view or ocean view

The entry categories are the Tropical-View Premier and the Ocean-View Premier, each with one king or two kings and about 700 square feet. If you plan to spend most of your time at the pools, the spa and the restaurants, the tropical view is the value pick. The ocean view is worth the premium if you will actually use the balcony at sunrise.

Swim-up and private-pool rooms

W lists 46 suites with swim-up pools, including the Swim-Up Deluxe (about 700 square feet, with a terrace and plunge-pool access) and the Premier Deluxe with Private Pool. As everywhere, ground-floor swim-up rooms trade some privacy for convenience. Our guide to the best swim-up suites in Punta Cana explains how to judge sun exposure and privacy before you choose.

Suites: W Suite, Supreme Suite and Oasis

Moving up, the Tropical-View W Suite measures roughly 880 to 1,000 square feet, and the Ocean-View Supreme Suite about 1,045 to 1,073 square feet with personal butler service. At the top sit the oceanfront, two-bedroom Oasis suites with private pools and a separate living area, aimed at two couples traveling together or a small group of friends. Category names differ slightly between booking channels, so check exactly what you are buying before you pay.

Restaurants and bars at W Punta Cana

W counts 12 restaurants, bars and lounges, plus rotating food trucks and pop-ups. The food program is built around à la carte venues and a single food hall rather than a classic buffet, and the bar program leans hard into cocktails and music. The main venues are:

  • Trade Market: a food hall with live cooking stations inspired by global street food, open for breakfast and dinner without reservations.
  • Scena: the signature restaurant, with chef-driven Dominican and Caribbean cooking and tasting-menu dinners; reservations are recommended.
  • Satsuma Rooftop: Peruvian-Nikkei raw bar, ceviche and sushi with rooftop views at dinner.
  • Noodle Bar: Pan-Asian broths, noodles and wok dishes.
  • Taman Beach Club: Mediterranean plates on the sand by day, cocktails and live entertainment later.
  • WET Deck: Caribbean and Latin American bites around the main pool.
  • Outpost Cafe: coffee, bakery items and pastries all day.
  • Sensazioni: modern Italian with handmade pasta; Costco Travel lists it as a space for special occasions and private events, so ask how to book it.

For drinks, The Living Room is the signature lobby lounge with infusion cocktails and DJ sets, The Plaza Bar focuses on Latin American mixology, The Taproom pours craft and local beers, the Chill Pool Bar is the swim-up, and 33 1/3 is a low-lit speakeasy with a vinyl room tucked behind an unmarked door near the lobby. If you are new to how reservations, dress codes and à la carte dinners work at all-inclusives, our Punta Cana all-inclusive dining guide covers the basics.

Pools, spa and things to do

The centerpiece is the WET Deck, W’s signature pool scene, built here around an infinity pool of about 80 meters that faces the beach, with shaded cabanas and drinks brought to your lounger. The quieter Chill Pool has the swim-up bar, and the resort also lists two hot tubs on top of the private and semi-private pools attached to the swim-up and pool suites.

AWAY Spa is an adults-only space of roughly 4,000 square feet with 10 treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy circuit with sauna, steam room, cold plunge and whirlpool, and a Himalayan salt room. Treatments cost extra. The 24-hour FIT gym (about 1,500 square feet) and the fitness classes are included. Listed activities include yoga, pilates, pickleball, beach volleyball, kayaking and surfing, while horseback riding and snorkeling trips are also offered, some of them for a fee.

Entertainment is deliberately light-touch: DJ sets, live music, beachside silent discos, DJ-led sound baths, cocktail classes and themed beach dinners rather than a nightly theater show. If you want stage shows and big themed pool parties, nearby Breathless is the louder option; our Breathless Punta Cana review explains what that resort’s party scene is like.

How much does W Punta Cana cost?

Rates move a lot with the season and room category, so treat these figures as rough guides only. Around the October 2025 inauguration, Caribbean Journal found rates of about $950 a night for a tropical-view king, about $1,050 for an ocean-view king and roughly $1,375 for a swim-up room. In late October 2026, Expedia showed prices from about $609 for one night for two adults, taxes and fees included. Expect the high end around Christmas, New Year and spring break, and better value in the late-summer and autumn shoulder months.

Because taxes and gratuities are included in the all-inclusive rate, the main extras are spa treatments, excursions and your airport transfer. Our guide to Punta Cana all-inclusive taxes, tipping and hidden costs explains the 28% tax-and-service model and how much to set aside for tips.

W Punta Cana review: who should book, and who shouldn’t?

W Punta Cana makes the most sense for couples and groups of adult friends who like the W style (bold design, cocktails, DJs) but want it inside an all-inclusive with big rooms and no club-level hierarchy. Marriott Bonvoy loyalists also gain a rare Punta Cana all-inclusive inside their program.

It is a weaker fit if you want calm water for swimming, a short transfer, a budget stay or children along (they are not allowed). For a quieter, wellness-focused hideaway on the same coast, read our Zoëtry Agua Punta Cana review; for full-volume pool parties, Breathless is the obvious pick. Our ranking of the best adults-only all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana compares the wider field, and our roundup of new resorts in Punta Cana covers everything else that has opened recently or is coming soon.

Our verdict on W Punta Cana

W Punta Cana is one of the most distinctive adults-only all-inclusives to open in the Dominican Republic in years: spacious rooms, a genuinely different food and bar lineup, and social energy without mega-resort crowds. The trade-offs are the long transfer, a wave-washed Atlantic beach and premium pricing. If the W style appeals to you, it is worth the trip to Uvero Alto; if you mainly want calm water and value, look closer to Bávaro or Cap Cana.
