This Dreams Royal Beach Punta Cana review is for families and couples who like the idea of Secrets Royal Beach but are travelling with kids, or who want a livelier resort at a slightly lower price. Dreams Royal Beach sits on central Bávaro Beach, right next to its adults-only sister. It shares the shoreline, a casino and a spa with Secrets, and it has its own Preferred Club, kids’ and teens’ clubs and a long list of restaurants. Below we cover the rooms, what the Preferred Club adds, the dining line-up, the 2025–2026 renovations and what you can use next door. Everything is based on the resort’s published information and current tour-operator listings, not on a hosted stay.

Dreams Royal Beach Punta Cana review: the short verdict
Dreams Royal Beach is a mid-sized, all-ages resort in a good central spot. It is a sensible pick if you want Hyatt-style Unlimited-Luxury service (gratuities included, 24-hour room service, top-shelf drinks) without the size of a mega-resort. Its biggest strengths are the location, the range of à la carte restaurants and a Preferred Club with its own buffet, pools and bars. Its main limits are the water-play facilities, which are modest compared with the big waterpark resorts, and the fact that the best adults-only spaces belong to Secrets next door.
Pros
- Central Bávaro Beach location, about 17–18 km from Punta Cana airport
- Many dining options, including Asian, Italian, Mexican and a grill, plus 24-hour Coco Café
- Preferred Club with exclusive buffet, lounge, pools and bars
- Explorer’s Club for ages 3–12 and Core Zone for teens 13–17
- Access to the casino, nightclub and spa (18+) shared with Secrets Royal Beach
Cons
- Water-play area is small next to Dreams Onyx, Dreams Macao or Hard Rock
- Several eateries and bars are reserved for Preferred Club guests
- Guestroom works were scheduled through October 31, 2026
Where is Dreams Royal Beach and how far is the airport?
The resort’s address is Avenida Alemania in El Cortecito, on the central part of Bávaro Beach, the same Los Corales / El Cortecito stretch as Secrets Royal Beach. That puts you close to El Cortecito’s beachfront shops and cafés if you want to step outside the resort. Our Bávaro Beach, El Cortecito and Los Corales area guide explains what is within reach on foot.
Air Canada Vacations lists the resort about 17.5 km from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ). Costco Travel puts the drive at roughly 24 minutes, and other operators say about half an hour, so plan for 25–30 minutes depending on traffic. Many packages include round-trip transfers; if yours does not, compare options in our airport transfer and e-ticket guide. Standard check-in is 3 p.m. and check-out is noon.
Rooms and suites: which category should you book?
Room counts vary between sources. WestJet Vacations, Air Canada Vacations and Travelocity list 486 rooms and suites, while an older Costco Travel listing shows 373. The categories split into two tiers.
Standard Deluxe rooms
The entry-level Deluxe rooms are listed at about 570 sq ft. They come in Tropical View, Pool View and Pool Terrace versions, with one king or two double beds. WestJet lists a maximum of four people in a Deluxe King. For bigger families, look at the Deluxe Family Room; Costco Travel lists it at around 1,140 sq ft. Larger groups should book the Family Room or two connecting rooms.
Preferred Club rooms and suites
Preferred Club categories include Deluxe Pool View, Deluxe Partial Ocean View and Deluxe Swim-up rooms, Junior Suite Pool Terrace and Swim-out suites, a Family Junior Suite Pool Terrace, the Premium Suite Garden View (about 768 sq ft) and the top Master Suites, one with a private pool and one oceanfront. Air Canada describes the club rooms as sitting in a designated building with renovated room categories in select rooms. If you want a swim-up or swim-out room, this is the only tier that offers it, and our guide to the best swim-up suites in Punta Cana explains what to check about sun and privacy.
Is the Preferred Club at Dreams Royal Beach worth it?
At Dreams Royal Beach the Preferred Club is more than a lounge. Tour-operator listings describe a separate, recently renovated area with its own restaurants, bars and pools. According to Air Canada Vacations and WestJet Vacations, club guests get:
- Personalized check-in and check-out with a concierge, plus a pillow menu and upgraded amenities.
- A lounge serving breakfast, afternoon hors d’oeuvres, desserts and better spirits.
- Market Café, a breakfast buffet only for club guests, plus breakfast and lunch at Seaside Grill.
- Club-only snack spots (Pizzeria, On a Roll, Dolce) and The Reef pool bar.
- Pool concierge, use of pedal boats on a private lagoon and late check-out until 1 p.m. when available.
It is worth it for families who want a quieter base and fewer queues at breakfast. Couples who plan to spend a lot of time at the pool will also like it. It matters less if you will be out on excursions most days. Note that it is a concierge service, not a personal butler. If a butler is what you want, see our guide to Punta Cana resorts with butler service. For how it compares with other brands’ clubs, read Preferred Club vs Elegance Club vs Unique Club.
Restaurants and bars at Dreams Royal Beach
WestJet lists 14 restaurant outlets and Air Canada counts the same number when snack bars and club-only venues are included. The main options open to all guests are:
- World Café – international buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
- Fusion – Asian à la carte with teppanyaki tables.
- Portofino – Italian à la carte.
- Tres Colores – Mexican à la carte.
- Seaside Grill – beachside grill (breakfast and lunch are for Preferred Club guests).
- Tides Pool Side Grill, That’s a Wrap and Sundaez – casual lunch, wraps and ice cream.
- Coco Café – coffee and pastries, listed as open 24 hours.
The adults-only seafood restaurant, Oceana, was announced for conversion into a French restaurant from September 12, 2025. Ask at check-in what the new venue is called and whether it has an age limit. Bars include three swim-up bars (Blue Dorado, Sea Legs and Splash), the Half Time sports bar, beach bars such as Hideaway and The Grotto, plus Interlude and Veranda. Dinner has a dress code at the à la carte restaurants. Our guide to all-inclusive restaurant reservations and dress codes explains how this usually works.
Dreams Royal Beach also takes part in Hyatt’s Sip, Savor & See program. You can book dinner at participating sister resorts nearby between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m. Book through the concierge by 3 p.m., with a maximum of four people per booking. You pay your own transport.
Pools, kids’ club and teens: how family-friendly is it?
Tour operators list six pools: three main outdoor pools, two kids’ pools and a whirlpool, plus Preferred Club pools and a water-play area with a fast “kamikaze” slide. That is fine for younger children, but it is not a full waterpark. If slides and a lazy river are the priority, look at the resorts in our best family resorts with waterparks list, or compare Dreams Onyx vs Dreams Macao.
The Explorer’s Club (ages 3–12) is listed as open 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. with arts and crafts, treasure hunts, a climbing wall, beach movies and weekly campouts. Babysitting costs extra; WestJet listed it at about US$30 per hour for one child. Teens get the Core Zone Teens Club (13–17), open from mid-afternoon to midnight with video games, billiards and social events. Activities for everyone include pickleball, tennis, kayaks, sailing, snorkeling and an introductory scuba lesson in the pool. Motorized water sports cost extra.
Dreams Royal Beach vs Secrets Royal Beach: what can you use next door?

The two resorts sit side by side, and the access arrangement works mainly in one direction. Secrets Royal Beach guests (18+) can use Dreams’ restaurants and bars, so you will see adults from next door at Portofino or Fusion. Dreams guests get the facilities listed by Air Canada Vacations: the casino (gaming costs extra), the nightclub and the spa (18+), all located at Secrets. Secrets’ own restaurants, pools and Preferred Club areas are not in the Dreams package, so do not book Dreams expecting a free adults-only escape next door.
If you are a couple without children, read our full Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana review first. Then see the head-to-head Secrets Royal Beach vs Dreams Royal Beach comparison. Paying more for Secrets usually makes sense if you want calmer pools and adults-only dining. Dreams wins if kids are coming or if you would rather have a livelier atmosphere.
2025–2026 renovations: what changed at Dreams Royal Beach?
The resort has been updated in phases. In 2020, before the Dreams rebrand, the former Now Larimar received a new lobby, a new pool and refreshed bars and buffet, according to Caribbean Journal and Costco Travel. WestJet’s alert for the most recent phase, due to finish by December 15, 2025, covered a new second-floor fitness center above the car park. The same phase renovated the lobby, front desk, restrooms, Coco Café and the Preferred Club concierge area.
Air Canada Vacations and WestJet Vacations then listed guestroom enhancements in one building, scheduled from June 1 to October 31, 2026. If you are travelling in November or December 2026, ask the resort to confirm the work is finished. Ask for a refreshed room away from any remaining works.
Who should book Dreams Royal Beach (and who shouldn’t)?
- Book it if: you are a family with kids under 12 or teens, you want a central Bávaro location with easy access to El Cortecito, and you value à la carte dining and 24-hour room service.
- Book Preferred Club if: you want your own pools, a club breakfast buffet and a calmer base without leaving a family resort.
- Skip it if: you need a big waterpark, or you are a couple who wants adults-only spaces. In that case, Secrets Royal Beach next door is the better match.

Our verdict on Dreams Royal Beach
Dreams Royal Beach is a well-located, mid-sized family resort with strong dining and a Preferred Club that works almost like a resort within a resort. It suits families and multi-generation groups who want Bávaro Beach and Hyatt-style service more than big slides. Check the room-renovation status for late-2026 stays, and choose Secrets next door if you are travelling as an adult couple.
