Club Med Punta Cana review: at a glance

  • Best for: families with babies to teens who want supervised kids clubs and lots of included sports
  • Location: on the coast roughly 10–15 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), away from the busy Bávaro strip
  • Kids clubs: Baby Club Med (4–23 months) and Petit Club Med (2–3 years) cost extra; Mini Club Med (4–10), Teens Club (11–13) and Chill Pass (14–17) are included
  • Signature extras: a circus school with flying trapeze and the largest water park in the Club Med chain (opened December 2024)
  • New since late 2025: Buena Vista Lounge, El Mundo Food Club, the rebuilt Joia bar and renovated Costa del Coco Deluxe rooms
  • Skip it if: you want a kid-free resort or nightlife (the 18+ Zen Oasis helps, but this is a family resort)

Compare Punta Cana family resort prices for your dates

This Club Med Punta Cana review answers the question most parents ask: is the brand’s flagship family resort in the Dominican Republic still worth it in 2026? Club Med has run this resort since the early 1980s, and after a fire in September 2024 damaged the main restaurant, lobby and shop, those spaces were rebuilt and unveiled in November 2025. What did not change is the formula that made it famous: supervised clubs for almost every age, a circus school with a real flying trapeze, sailing and tennis lessons, and a team of staff (the G.O.s, in Club Med language) who run the day from breakfast to the evening show.

Below we cover the kids clubs by age, what costs extra, the rooms, the dining and who should book it. This review draws on Club Med’s own information, tour operator listings and 2024–2026 trade press coverage.

Club Med Punta Cana review: the short verdict

Club Med Punta Cana is still one of the most complete family resorts in the region if your children are between 4 and 17. The included clubs are the real selling point: you can drop a 6-year-old at Mini Club Med for a full day of crafts, mini tennis and circus practice, while a 15-year-old hangs out with the Chill Pass group, and none of that adds to your bill. The 2025 renovation fixed the parts that felt dated (the lobby and the main restaurant), and the water park added in December 2024 closes the gap with waterpark-heavy rivals.

The trade-offs: care for babies and toddlers costs extra, dining centres on a few large venues rather than many à la carte restaurants, and the resort is away from Bávaro’s beach bars and shops.

Where is Club Med Punta Cana?

The resort sits on the coast in the Punta Cana area proper, not on Bávaro Beach. Its biggest practical advantage is the airport: recent trade reports put it about 10 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), and other sources say around 15 minutes, which is short enough to make a big difference with tired kids. Our airport transfer and e-ticket guide explains how to arrange the ride and fill in the free entry form.

The grounds cover roughly 75 acres along a long palm-lined beach with separate areas for families, water sports and adults. Older guides describe the water as sheltered by an offshore reef, but like the whole east coast it can get sargassum seaweed in the warmer months; see our sargassum guide before picking dates. Still choosing an area? Our where to stay in Punta Cana guide compares the options.

What changed after the 2024 fire and the 2025 renovation?

Club Med unveiled the rebuilt heart of the resort in November 2025, during its 75th anniversary. The main changes:

  • Buena Vista Lounge: a 360-degree, open-air welcome area with ocean views that works as both lobby and meeting point.
  • El Mundo Food Club: the new main restaurant, with around 860 seats split between indoors and outdoors and five food stations.
  • Joia bar: rebuilt as a Dominican-style casita and described by Club Med as its largest bar anywhere.
  • Coffee shop: a casual all-day spot for coffee and snacks.
  • Costa del Coco Deluxe rooms: fully renovated, with private balconies and spa-style bathrooms with rain showers.
  • Water park: opened in December 2024 and billed as the largest in the Club Med portfolio.

Club Med Punta Cana kids clubs by age

Club Med’s programs here cover children from 4 months to 17 years. The split between included and paid clubs is what most families need to plan around.

Baby Club Med (4–23 months) and Petit Club Med (2–3 years)

These two clubs for the youngest guests are not part of the all-inclusive rate, so budget for them and reserve them when you book rather than on arrival. Club Med has also offered a baby welcome kit that you request in advance. For packing lists, sleep tips and other resorts that suit under-3s, read our Punta Cana with a toddler or baby guide.

Mini Club Med (4–10 years)

This is the club that sells the resort. It is included, runs for most of the day and is split into smaller age groups. Recent reports list crafts, mini tennis, archery, sailing and circus school, plus a splash area at the club. Supervised dinner-hour sessions have let parents eat alone; late-night babysitting costs extra.

Teens Club (11–13) and Chill Pass (14–17)

Older kids get two included programs with their own lounges. Coverage updated in 2025 mentions escape games, DJ mixing, talent shows, laser tag and beach movie nights, and teens can also join adult activities such as tennis clinics and the trapeze. Older reviews call this program Passworld; that is the former name. If you are comparing several resorts for this age group, our best Punta Cana resorts for teens ranking is a good next read.

Book the paid clubs early

Baby Club Med and Petit Club Med are paid add-ons. Add them when you reserve the room, especially for Christmas, February and Easter breaks, and keep the confirmation in writing.

Is the circus school and flying trapeze really included?

Yes. The circus program is the activity people remember most. In June 2015 Club Med and Cirque du Soleil opened CREACTIVE here, an area with more than 25 acrobatic and artistic activities such as flying trapeze, acrobatic bungee and aerial silks. A 2025 family review still describes a double flying trapeze, high bungee, aerial silk, tightrope and trampoline, plus juggling, percussion, dance and mask painting. Trade coverage from 2024 lists the trapeze among the 20-plus included activities.

Adults can take trapeze lessons too, with a net below. Ask on arrival about minimum ages and session times for each apparatus, as they vary.

Water park, sports and other included activities

The water park opened in December 2024 and has three zones: a jungle-themed water play area for younger children, a dome-shaped bubble pool and a slide zone with four slides, with lifeguards on duty. It is not a mega park on the scale of the biggest Bávaro resorts, but it adds a lot for kids aged roughly 4 to 12. To compare it with the bigger slide parks, see our best family resorts with waterparks.

Sports are where Club Med beats most all-inclusives. Lessons and equipment for sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing and snorkeling are included, along with tennis, pickleball, archery, beach volleyball and classes such as yoga and Zumba (see our pickleball and tennis resort guide). Golf is the exception: courses are a short drive away, but green fees are extra.

Rooms: family rooms, Zen Oasis and the Exclusive Collection

The resort has about 630 rooms in three main zones. Families usually book Family Superior or Family Deluxe rooms, which have a separate children’s room with its own door and sit close to Mini Club Med. The renovated Costa del Coco Deluxe rooms have the freshest interiors. Bigger groups can check our two-bedroom family suites guide.

Zen Oasis is an adults-only (18+) area with its own rooms, pool, bar and beach section. It works well for couples, grandparents in a multigenerational group or parents who want a quiet base while the kids are at the club. The Exclusive Collection (the Tiara area) is the premium tier, with suites, a private pool and bar, and extra services such as room-service breakfast.

Food and drink: El Mundo, Hispaniola and Indigo

The new El Mundo Food Club is now the main restaurant, with five stations: Smokey’s (American barbecue), Chula (Latin American street food), Kyo (Japanese), Olea (Greek) and LouLou (French cooking and pastries). Hispaniola is the oceanfront, marketplace-style buffet, and Indigo Beach Lounge is the beachfront spot for a more relaxed à la carte dinner that turns into a late-night lounge. Drinks are included at the bars, from the new Joia bar to the adults-only bar in Zen Oasis.

This is a different model from the big Bávaro resorts with ten or more specialty restaurants: great for picky eaters, less so for foodies who want a new à la carte dinner every night. Our all-inclusive dining guide explains how reservations and dress codes work in Punta Cana.

What’s included at Club Med Punta Cana, and what costs extra?

  • Included: meals and snacks, open bar, Mini Club Med, Teens Club and Chill Pass, the circus school, the water park, non-motorized water sports with lessons, tennis and pickleball, fitness classes, Wi-Fi and the evening shows.
  • Extra: Baby Club Med and Petit Club Med, late-evening babysitting, spa treatments, golf green fees, scuba certification courses and off-site excursions, and the upgrade to Zen Oasis or the Exclusive Collection.

  • Lobby, main restaurant and Deluxe rooms renovated in 2025
  • Adults-only Zen Oasis gives couples and grandparents a quiet base

Who should book Club Med Punta Cana, and who shouldn’t?

Book it if you have children aged 4 to 17 and want them busy, supervised and learning something new; if you travel as a multigenerational group and want a quiet adults-only corner; or if your family will actually use the sailing, tennis and trapeze.

Skip it if you are a couple without kids looking for nightlife or a romantic, quiet resort, or if dining variety matters more to you than activities. In that case, compare our Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana review for a character-driven family alternative, or the Paradisus Palma Real review for a Bávaro Beach resort that mixes families with an adults-only section.

Our verdict on Club Med Punta Cana

For families with kids aged 4 to 17, Club Med Punta Cana is still one of the easiest all-inclusive choices in the Dominican Republic: included clubs, real lessons, a circus school and a refreshed main area after the 2025 rebuild. Budget extra for the baby and toddler clubs, and look elsewhere if you want gourmet variety or nightlife.

How to book Club Med Punta Cana

Club Med sells most stays directly and through travel agents, and prices are usually quoted per person rather than per room, so compare like with like. You can also check Club Med Punta Cana rates on Booking.com; if it doesn’t show for your dates, compare against Club Med’s own site. Confirm which clubs are included for your children’s ages before you pay.
