Flights to Punta Cana from Latin America

Latin American links have grown fast, helped by low-cost carriers and by Arajet, the Dominican airline that now calls Punta Cana its second hub after Santo Domingo. Panama City, Lima and Bogotá were among PUJ’s ten busiest international routes in 2025.

Colombia: Bogotá, Medellín and Cali

From Bogotá, Avianca, Wingo and Arajet fly nonstop in about 2 hours 45–50 minutes, with Avianca the most frequent. From Medellín, JetSMART, Wingo and Arajet operate nonstop in roughly 2 hours 35–50 minutes, and JetSMART also links Cali with Punta Cana in about 3 hours.

Panama and Mexico

Copa Airlines flies nonstop from Panama City (Tocumen) in about 2 hours 35 minutes, and its hub makes it the easiest one-stop option from Central America and much of South America. From Mexico City, Aeroméxico operates the only nonstop, about once a day, in roughly 4 hours 30–45 minutes.

Peru, Chile, Argentina and Brazil

From Lima, LATAM, SKY and Arajet fly nonstop in about 5 hours 10 minutes. From Santiago de Chile, schedules show Arajet and LATAM nonstops of about 8 hours. From Buenos Aires–Ezeiza, Aerolíneas Argentinas and Arajet fly nonstop in about 8 hours, and from São Paulo–Guarulhos, LATAM and Arajet offer nonstops of about 7 hours. GOL has also flown São Paulo–Punta Cana, so check its 2027 schedule.

Venezuela and Ecuador

Flights between Venezuela and the Dominican Republic restarted in March 2026 after almost two years of suspension. RUTACA flies Caracas–Punta Cana twice a week in about 1 hour 20 minutes, while other carriers have restarted Caracas–Santo Domingo. Venezuelan citizens need a Dominican visa unless exempt (see our Dominican Republic entry requirements). From Ecuador, nonstop service has been irregular; the usual routings connect via Panama City or Bogotá.

Latin American routes change quickly

Low-cost carriers such as Wingo, JetSMART and Arajet add and pause routes from season to season. Use this list as a starting point and confirm days of operation on the airline’s own site before you lock in a hotel or a connection.

  • Terminal A: United, JetBlue, Frontier, Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge, WestJet, Air Transat, Flair, Avianca, Wingo, LATAM, SKY, Aeroméxico, GOL, Condor, TUI, World2fly and Iberojet, among others.

How to find cheaper flights to Punta Cana

  • Avoid the peak weeks: Christmas to New Year, winter school breaks, Easter and midsummer holidays push fares and hotel rates up. Our best time to visit Punta Cana guide shows the quieter months.
  • Compare nearby gateways: a drive to a bigger hub such as Miami, New York, Atlanta, Toronto, Bogotá or Madrid often unlocks more nonstop options and competition.
  • Price the whole trip with low-cost airlines: carriers such as Wingo, JetSMART, Arajet, Frontier and Flair charge extra for checked bags and seat selection, so compare final totals.
  • Check flight-and-hotel packages: for all-inclusive stays, tour-operator packages from Canada, the UK, Spain and the US can undercut booking separately.
  • Be flexible: set fare alerts and shift your dates by a day or two; midweek departures are often cheaper.

Flying into Santo Domingo instead?

Santo Domingo’s Las Américas airport (SDQ) sometimes has cheaper fares, but Bávaro is about three hours away by road (the Expreso Bávaro coach from the city takes around three hours). Unless the saving is large, landing at PUJ is worth it.

Our take

Punta Cana is one of the easiest Caribbean destinations to reach: nonstop flights of about 2 to 5 hours cover most of the eastern US, Canada, Colombia, Panama, Mexico and Peru, and Madrid is about 9 hours away. Check whether your route is seasonal, compare the total price on low-cost airlines, avoid the holiday peaks and, if you land late, pick a resort in Cap Cana, Cabeza de Toro or southern Bávaro to keep the transfer short.
