Opened in late 2019 on Juanillo Beach in Cap Cana, Hyatt Zilara is the adults-only (18+) half of a two-resort complex shared with Hyatt Ziva, each with 375 suites. Adults get their own pools, bars and restaurants, such as Brando’s (French with Tahitian flair), Journeys (Indian), Waves (steakhouse) and Shutters (Peruvian-Caribbean), and can use the shared amenities of the complex as well. Junior suites start at about 600 sq ft, and the Club Level adds a private lounge and pool.
The underground, cenote-inspired Larimar Spa with its hydrotherapy circuit is a standout (treatments cost extra), while The Blind Butcher restaurant carries a surcharge and requires a reservation. 2. Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana: best luxury all-inclusive for families
Ziva is the all-ages side of the same complex, also with 375 suites, and it is the strongest luxury choice in Punta Cana for families who do not want to compromise on food. Kids have the KidZ Club, teens have their own lounge, and the Canapolis water park adds a lazy river and slides. Restaurants include El Mercado (buffet), Navigator Grill, Noodle and Thread and Tempest Table, while Club Level guests get breakfast and lunch at The Chinola. 3. Secrets Cap Cana: the most romantic
Also on Juanillo Beach, Secrets Cap Cana is adults-only (18+), with 457 suites in a resort that opened at the end of 2016. Its Preferred Club bungalow suites, low-rise casita-style units with oceanfront and swim-up versions, are among the most romantic rooms in Punta Cana, and its ten dining venues, including Bordeaux (French), Portofino (Italian) and Himitsu (Pan-Asian), work without reservations. 4. Zoëtry Agua Punta Cana: best boutique and wellness resort
With fewer than 100 suites under cane-thatched roofs in Uvero Alto, Zoëtry Agua is the antidote to mega-resorts. Its Endless Privileges plan is built around à la carte, organic-leaning dining with no buffets, and adds perks you rarely see elsewhere: complimentary laundry service, a 20-minute massage per guest per stay and a 45-minute horseback ride on the beach. It is adult-oriented but does accept children, and there is no kids’ club. The trade-off is distance: Uvero Alto is one of the longer transfers from Punta Cana Airport, often 45 minutes or more.
5. Majestic Mirage Punta Cana: best suites and butler service
Majestic Mirage on Arena Gorda Beach is an all-suite resort with 510 suites, each with a jacuzzi (indoor or outdoor depending on the category), plus butler service and 24-hour room service. Five buildings form the adults-only Mirage Club (18+) and two make up the Family Club, so couples and families each get their own space. Suites range from about 530 to just over 1,060 sq ft. Dining includes Kabuki (sushi and teppanyaki), L’Essence (gourmet, adults only) and Don Jaume Steakhouse, and some à la carte restaurants work with reservations. It is the most complete luxury option if you want to stay in the Bávaro and Arena Gorda area rather than Cap Cana.
6. JOIA Bávaro by Iberostar: best for golfers
Formerly Iberostar Grand Bávaro, JOIA Bávaro is an adults-only, all-suite resort of around 270 suites on Arena Gorda, next to the 18-hole Iberostar Bávaro Golf Club. Personal butler service comes with the Butler suite categories (ocean view, oceanfront, near-beach and swim-out), and 24-hour room service is available. Restaurants include Le Tourbillon (haute cuisine), Hashira and El Galeón (surf and turf), and the resort has three pools plus its galleon-style ship bar.
