Our Secrets Cap Cana review starts with the question most couples actually ask: is this the most romantic adults-only all-inclusive in Punta Cana, or simply one of the most photogenic? Secrets Cap Cana Resort & Spa sits on Juanillo Beach, one of the softest and calmest stretches of sand in the region, inside the gated Cap Cana development just south of the airport. It runs on the Secrets Unlimited-Luxury plan, belongs to the Hyatt Inclusive Collection and does not accept guests under 18, so the whole resort is designed around couples.
Below: which suites to book, how dining works, whether the Preferred Club is worth it and how Secrets compares with its neighbors.
Secrets Cap Cana review: the short answer
Secrets Cap Cana is one of the strongest adults-only choices in Punta Cana for a romantic trip, thanks to its beach, its relaxed pace and a layout that is easy to get around on foot. It opened at the end of 2016 as a newly built resort rather than a converted older property, so the low-rise bungalow buildings, the big oceanfront infinity pool and the suite mix were planned for couples from day one.
The trade-offs are clear. Dining is varied but not as broad as at larger complexes with exchange privileges, the most memorable rooms sit behind the Preferred Club upgrade, and Cap Cana is quieter and more private than Bávaro, with no strip of bars and shops to walk to. If you want calm, privacy and a beautiful beach, those are features rather than flaws.
Where is Secrets Cap Cana? Juanillo Beach and the gated Cap Cana community
The resort fronts Playa Juanillo, a long curve of white sand with shallow, usually gentle turquoise water. Cap Cana is a private development with controlled entrances, a marina, the Jack Nicklaus-designed Punta Espada golf course and Scape Park, so the area feels far more exclusive than the open beachfront of Bávaro. Our Cap Cana travel guide covers the beach, the marina and what to do beyond the resort.
The drive from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is short, typically 15 to 20 minutes, versus 45 minutes or more to Uvero Alto. For private transfers, taxis and the free Dominican e-ticket, see our PUJ airport transfers guide.
Like every beach on this coast, Juanillo can receive sargassum seaweed in the warmer months. Cap Cana keeps its beaches groomed, but conditions change from week to week, so read our sargassum seaweed guide before you lock in summer dates.

Rooms and suites at Secrets Cap Cana: which category to book
All 457 accommodations are suites. The entry-level Junior Suites measure roughly 590 square feet (about 55 m²) and come with a king or two queen beds, a balcony or terrace, a minibar refreshed daily and 24-hour room service. Size barely changes between the standard categories; what you pay for is the view, from tropical and pool view up to partial-ocean and full ocean view.
Swim-up Junior Suites
Swim-up suites open from the terrace straight into the pool, and they are a favorite with honeymooners. Keep in mind that a shared pool channel in front of your terrace means less privacy than a balcony above it. They are the most affordable way to step from your room into the water here; Preferred Club versions exist too.
Preferred Club Bungalow and Master Suites
The rooms that set this resort apart are the Preferred Club bungalow suites: casita-style, low-rise units of roughly 720 to 800 square feet, sold in pool-view and oceanfront versions, some with swim-up access. Above them sit the Preferred Club Master Suites, around 1,270 square feet, including a plunge-pool version of roughly 1,530 square feet, plus two presidential suite categories. For a once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon, an oceanfront bungalow is the category that makes Secrets Cap Cana feel different from its neighbors.

Secrets Cap Cana restaurants and bars: how the dining works
There are 10 dining venues, and dinner is the highlight. The à la carte restaurants do not require reservations:
- Bordeaux: French, the most formal dinner of the week.
- Portofino: Italian.
- El Patio: Mexican, with indoor and open-air seating.
- Himitsu: Pan-Asian.
- Oceana: seafood in a seaside setting.
- Seaside Grill: poolside grill for lunch and dinner.
- Market Café (buffet breakfast and lunch), Barefoot Grill (light lunches) and Coco Café (coffee and snacks).
- Rosewater: international cuisine, reserved for Preferred Club guests.
Premium drinks are unlimited at the lobby bar, pool bar, beach bar, swim-up bar and theater bar, and 24-hour room service is included. Because the restaurants are first-come, first-served, the most popular ones may have a wait at peak dinner hours; eating a little earlier or later usually solves it. Through the brand’s Sip, Savor & See program you can also arrange dinner at participating sister resorts via the concierge, although transportation is at your own cost.
Is the Preferred Club at Secrets Cap Cana worth it?
The Preferred Club is the resort’s upgrade tier. Based on the published inclusions, it adds:
- Private check-in and check-out with concierge service.
- The Preferred Club lounge, with continental breakfast, afternoon hors d’oeuvres, desserts and premium liquors.
- A private Preferred Club pool and beach area.
- Breakfast and lunch at Rosewater, plus breakfast at Oceana when occupancy allows.
- Upgraded bath amenities, a pillow menu and upgraded minibar and room-service menus.
Our take: it is worth paying for if you want a bungalow or Master Suite (those are Preferred Club only) or if you value a quieter pool and beach area during holiday weeks. If you mainly want a pleasant ocean-view room and plan to spend your days on the main beach, a standard Junior Suite with ocean view delivers most of the experience for less. To see how this tier compares with the Elegance, Unique and Elite clubs at other resorts, read our Punta Cana VIP club levels comparison.
Pools, spa and activities: what a day looks like
The centerpiece is a large infinity pool facing the beach, with a swim-up bar, plus a separate Preferred Club pool. Days are unhurried: non-motorized water sports such as kayaks and small sailboats, fitness classes and yoga, and evening entertainment in the theater with live shows and theme nights. The pool bar livens up in the afternoon, but this is not a resort built around DJ parties.
The Secrets Spa is a paid extra, so budget for it if a couples massage is part of your plan. Golf at nearby Punta Espada, scuba diving, fishing and excursions also cost extra.
What does Secrets Cap Cana really cost? Taxes, tips and extras
All-inclusive rates here include taxes and gratuities, so there is no service charge to add at checkout. Tipping is optional, although many guests leave a little extra for standout service. Secrets Cap Cana vs Hyatt Zilara and Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana
Secrets shares Juanillo Beach with Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana (adults-only) and Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana (all ages), which operate as one complex with shared amenities. The Hyatt pair offers more restaurants and bars combined, a water park on the Ziva side and an underground, cenote-inspired spa; Secrets answers with a more intimate, bungalow-style feel and a resort that is adults-only from end to end. The full head-to-head is in our Hyatt Ziva vs Hyatt Zilara vs Secrets Cap Cana comparison.
If you do not need an all-inclusive plan and want private-pool villas, our Eden Roc Cap Cana review covers Cap Cana’s boutique alternative, and our ranking of the best luxury all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana shows where Secrets fits among the top tier.

Our verdict on Secrets Cap Cana
Secrets Cap Cana is a polished, genuinely romantic adults-only resort on one of Punta Cana’s best beaches, with a short airport transfer and dining that is varied enough for a week. Book an ocean-view Junior Suite for great value, or go Preferred Club for the bungalow suites and private pool and beach area if this is a milestone trip.
Prices vary according to travel dates and availability.

Do you need restaurant reservations at Secrets Cap Cana?
No. The à la carte restaurants work without reservations, so you simply turn up. At peak dinner times the most popular venues can have a short wait, so dining a little earlier or later helps.
